33: 30 general questions and 3 about your state. They come from a catalog of 310 questions for you (300 general plus 10 for your state). The full BAMF catalog has 460 questions.
How many answers do I need to get right?
At least 17 out of 33. You then get a certificate from BAMF to show the naturalisation office.
How much does the test cost and how long is it?
25 euros, and you have 60 minutes.
Can I take the Einbürgerungstest in English?
No, the official test is in German only. The app shows every question in English as well, so you understand it while you learn the German wording.
Which app is good for the Einbürgerungstest?
Einbürgerungstest 2026: LiD is free, with no ads and no subscription. It has the questions of the BAMF catalog, all 16 states, a 33-question mock exam, review of wrong answers, and 4 languages. It works offline.
Is this the official BAMF app?
No. It is an independent app, not connected to BAMF or any government office. The questions are based on the official catalog (Stand 07.05.2025).
Will the questions change in 2027?
Probably one of them: Federal President Steinmeier's term ends in March 2027, so the catalog will need an update after that.
